KinoCue Privacy Policy
Last updated: June 2, 2026
KinoCue helps you discover movies using your swipes, filters, watchlist choices, and optional voice notes. This policy explains what data is processed when you use the app.
Data KinoCue Processes
- Voice notes: if you choose to record and send one, the audio is sent to the KinoCue backend for transcription and preference analysis.
- Movie taste signals: swipes, saved movies, filters, voice-note transcripts, and derived preference summaries may be used to build recommendations.
- Movie metadata requests: KinoCue requests movie information, posters, ratings, and descriptions needed to show the deck.
- Recommendation quality events: KinoCue may send compact records of swipes, visible deck context, active filters, and structured voice preference signals to understand whether recommendations are useful. These records do not include uploaded audio files.
- Technical data: the backend may process a random app-generated anonymous install identifier, standard request data, rate-limit counters, cache entries, and error diagnostics to keep the service reliable and control abuse or cost.
How Data Is Used
Data is used for app functionality and quality analysis: speech-to-text, recommendation tuning, movie metadata retrieval, cached translations, rate limiting, debugging, service reliability, and understanding recommendation quality. KinoCue does not use this data for third-party advertising or tracking.
Service Providers
KinoCue may process app requests through backend service providers, including OpenAI for AI preference/recommendation/translation tasks, Soniox for speech-to-text, TMDb for movie metadata, OMDb for supplemental movie metadata, and hosting infrastructure used to run the KinoCue backend. These providers process data only as needed to provide the app functionality.
Storage and Retention
The app stores your local profile, watchlist, swipe history, voice-note text, and derived taste profile on your device until you reset the local profile or remove the app. The anonymous install identifier is stored until the app is removed. KinoCue does not intentionally retain uploaded audio after the backend finishes processing it. Backend logs, recommendation quality events, cache files, usage ledgers, and diagnostic records may be retained for operational, security, quality-analysis, and cost-control purposes and are kept as limited as practical.
Your Choices
- Voice notes are optional; you can use the app without recording one.
- You can revoke microphone permission in iOS Settings.
- You can clear local swipes, watchlist, deck, and voice memory from the Profile screen.
- You may request deletion of backend records by contacting [email protected].
Children
KinoCue is not directed to children under 13.
